Practical Instruction for ESOL Adult Education Classrooms
Presenter: Kelli Cooney, NYSED CAL Certified Trainer
Morning Refreshments and Networking Lunch Provided
In this training, our NYSED CAL Certified Trainer, Kelli Cooney, will cover practical instruction for ESOL adult learners. Topics will cover refugee resettlement and moving toward cultural understanding; how understanding linguistic tendencies in languages of origin (common struggles in transitioning to English) can better inform teaching practices; and making adult students’ time worth the investment. She will provide purposeful supplemental classroom activities; and discuss citizenship and civics materials released by OCTAE, helpful community resources, and ways case managers, job development partnerships and program data can all work to support the learners.
This 6 hour training counts toward the 14 hours of professional development requirement for all NYSED funded program staff.
